Wonderful Weather! A bit on the W and the number 5...

Another fun week! This week I did a few weather science experiments...I love incorporating science when I can...such great exposure for the little ones! We also did our weekly word study with the letter Ww and our number sense with the number 5.

Thursday...

My buddy of the day!

Ww is for Watermelon...We are going to make Watermelon sun catchers! For when the weather is sunny!
(just in case you were wondering "what in the world are these things)
First we counted out seeds...I had asked them to count out 5 seeds for our number of the week!

Great 1-1 counting buddy!

Next I added gel hand-sanitizer and red food coloring...The squished it around to make it look like the inside of a watermelon.

Perfection!

Painting a whale!

Ww is for weather! I gave each kiddo a strip and we worked together to make the letter W. We then talked about each piece of weather and added that to it!

Such hard workers!!

Of course...picking up those tiny snowflakes proves to be tough work for these little fingers!

Our letter W 4-box sheet!

Making the letter 4 different ways is not only fun but a great way to learn!

Let's talk wind!

We made our feather move by making wind!

A fun carry over activity would be "wind-feather" races!

Next...rain! What makes rain? When clouds get full of moisture...they need to release the water. So we used cotton balls and water to do just that!

Friday...
My sweet girl for the day!

Such sweet friends!

More about the wind. Let's make some kites!

See mom...I am not using my hand with the boo-boo! :)

Thank you for the toilet paper rolls...we put them to great use!

She is ready to fly her kite!

Time to take them for a spin! We didn't have much wind.

Taking a running start!

Adding seeds to our watermelon.

peeling and counting stickers is tough! But this sweet buddy can handle it!

Time for some tornadoes! I LOVED how many of the kiddos were calling these "tomatoes"
Before we started this experiment we read a book about tornadoes and talked about tornado safety. I even showed them a picture of a tornado that came a bit tooooo close to my house!

My neighbor took this picture...The tornado came through our driveway. I was busy practicing safe tornado procedures! I did see it...as I was running to the basement! Yikes!

Easy experiement Just water and dish soap!

A hint...If you shake it "up-and-down" you get bubbles! So shake it "side-to-side" in a circular motion
