Butterflies and insects...spring is here!

This week we explored butterflies and other insects...we learned that not all bugs are insects and that there is over 1 million different types of insects. We had fun singing the insect songs (head, thorax, abdomen...just like head, shoulders, knees, and toes). I continued assessments this week...their growth over the course of this short year is just simply amazing!

Thursday:
We used egg cartons to make butterflies!

My little artist!

Working on a great scissor grip!

making small snips to add insects to our letter Ii.

How fascinating...x-ray insects!

building a love of reading...

 Friday:
giant insects!
We each got to determine if our giant bug was an insect or not...
Does it have 3 body parts, 2 antennae, and 6 legs??

flowers & gardening

We had a blast planting flowers and learning all about the plant life cycle. We discussed the plants we eat that come from gardens and even tried sunflower seeds! We finished up the alphabet this week and continued our numbers 0-10. I can't believe we only have 5 more classes of the year left (insert tears)...

Thursday:
Painting pots for our seeds we are going to plant.

Make bird feeders!

Smashing down this gooiness!

Such artists we have!

Step 1 of making flowers!
Tomorrow we will label them.

Friday:
Our bird feeders!

Sweet buddy! Let's get dirty and plant those seeds!

These turned out super cute! The kiddos all know what to do to make these grow! Just ask them!

Oh my goodness...look how big these kiddos are! Walking out for some play time!

bubbles!!

making rainbows with chalk!

Sharing a chrysalis she has! They are watching butterflies grow at home!

Tasting sunflower seeds...
Do we like them, not like them, or didn't want to try them??
Most liked them: 11
Only 1 didn't
2 didn't try them

Tearing paper to give our Zebra some stripes. This is a great fine motor skill. The smaller they tear the stronger their fingers are!

Step 2: labeling the parts of our flowers!

Let's have zipper races!

So much fun!

What a great week! Next week we are going to learn about insects and other fun bugs!!
