Presidents

This was an interesting week for the kiddos. We talked about the different leaders our country has had! We learned lots about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We learned that Abraham was the tallest president to take office at 6 foot 4...and George Washington was the first president. We worked on sorting pennies and quarters and talked about the things we noticed on each coin. We worked on the letter Kk and continued with counting objects to 10.

Thursday:
Adventures with Pokey!

Adventures with Gumby!

We took a poll on who wanted to be President of the United States...This sweet boy is up for the job!
We then talked about what we would do if we were President!

Seriously...70 degrees in February!
We won't complain!

A fun way to work on our shapes!

A sweet problem solver!

Our new name sheets!
I could NOT have been more amazed with these kiddos! I just tickled to see how awesome they were at these!

 Friday:
We  talked about how the flag represents countries. We learned that our flag has 50 stars and 13 stripes.

Sorting out pennies and quarters. I sent these home so they could show you how awesome they are at this activity!

We looked at each of our coins and then did a fun counting experiment. How many drops of water will each coin hold?
We made a prediction that the bigger the coin the more water it would hold...Such smart buddies I have!

We counted 1 by 1 each drop

They were correct!

What an awesome week! Next week is all about Dr. Seuss!

It's All about the Teeth!

Teeth are always so interesting! The kiddos loved learning about how to take care of their teeth...what "baby teeth" are and what permanent teeth will be like. We even spent some time learning about animal teeth! What if you had shark teeth or the teeth of an elephant!? For our letter we worked on the letter Xx and for number sense we worked on the number 10 and non-standard units of measurement!

Thursday:
Adventures with Pokey!

We should brush our teeth twice a day...for 2 minutes!
Making puffy paint toothbrushes!

Science time!
What is that smell??!!

Why it is vinegar!

We put a raw egg in vinegar and let it sit over night! The egg shell protects the inside of the egg...much like how our tooth enamel protects our teeth!
Can you guess what will happen?

We had an officer come visit us at school! We learned that police do more helping and less chasing bad guys! They are here to help us so we should never be scared of them!

What a cool car!

Who loves police??
We Do!!!

Non-standard unit of measurement. They measured this toothbrush using 3 different items.
This is great for 1:1 counting as well!

scrub those teeth!!

The kiddos practiced brushing sugar bugs off of those teeth sheets! They had so much fun!

Friday:
Gumby adventures!

Making a set of our own chompers!

Let's take a look at what happened at those eggs!

the vinegar ate the shell off...it is now a squishy egg!

scissor cutting time...we are working really hard on the scissor grip.
holding paper and scissors is a tough job for our hands. At home cutting play-doh and yarn is a great way to let them practice!

This scissor grip is very common...practice is what makes it better!

putting cotton balls on their tooth page...but the kicker is they had to use tweezers!

Let's practice being dentists!

working hard to make teeth!

time to drill!
