All about those pearly whites!

This was a fun and educational week about our teeth. We had a wonderful guest speaker who told us why it is important to take care of our teeth, how to take care of them, and what to expect with these baby teeth!  This week I worked once again on that 1:1 counting. My goal is for kiddos to be successful with that by the end of the year up to number 10.

Thursday:
Using teezers or chopsticks these kiddos had to pick up cotton balls 1:1 to fill up their tooth. What an awesome way to start the week with getting these sweet hands warmed up for the day!

Great job sweet buddy! It takes a ton of hand strength to use just one hand!

After reading a non-fiction book about going to the dentist we decided we would make some fun toothbrushes of our own! They did such an awesome job following each of these simple directions.

gluing...

Cutting. We worked hard on using proper scissor grip to cut our white paper to make it look like the bristles of the brush.

Next we mixed glue, shaving cream, and blue paint to make a foamy paste.

Gone with Gumby! These 2 had some amazing adventures!

Our independent activity was to practice brushing some dirty teeth!

I encouraged small circles as they brushed.

Which food makes our teeth happy and which does not. We learned that some may make our tummy's happy and our tongues happy...but our teeth don't like sugar bugs (cavities!)

By the looks of his smile...he looks very happy!

I got to learn all about their teeth! This will go in their end of the year portfolio!
 Friday:

Making our mouths! We worked on counting 1:1 as we added marshmallows to our mouths.

I LOVE that pointing!

Sweet Pokey had an accident! Tink a sweet little puppy thought she could play with him...her bite was quite hard! Pokey went to the doctor and got all bandaged up and healed just in time to go on his next adventure!

Saying goodbye to our Mrs. Trina.

Using our sweet thumbs we made her a special vase.
We sure will miss her!!

Practicing being a good dentist. We drilled, filled, and pulled out teeth!

I see orthodontics in his future!

Measuring!
We used non-standard units of measurements to measure the length of a toothbrush. Unifix cubes, buttons, and teddy bears were our choices!

After we measured out the length we compared all of our units of measurement. We learned that depending on what we used to measure with could vary depending on the size of the object!

Hard at work these boys are!

I then would check their 1:1 counting. Once we get past 5 this can be tricky! Remember those fingers move faster than our sweet little voices! Work on them slowing down at home!

Scissor cutting time... Great form sweet girl!

What an awesome week! We had so much fun learning about our teeth and working on some basic skills. I can't wait to see what next week brings!

3-2-1 Blast-off!

I love this theme! I could spend many more weeks teaching these kiddos about space...with that being said we do cram in a lot in just 2 short days! We worked on the letter Uu and the number 7.

Thursday:
Adventures Galore!

Pokey had some interesting events this week!

A super special guest reader!

Our super astronaut even brought some space food...
It looks like an ice cream sandwich!

But by the look of his face it doesn't taste like one!

We compared ice cream sandwiches as we know them to the space ones we just tasted!

We learned a lot about the moon. It is made of rocks and has craters...we also learned that Earth has only 1 moon.

Using stryafoam we made moons by adding craters....

Then we gave them texture by mixing paint and flour and painting them.

We learned that clusters of certain stars have stories...these are called constellations.
A great fine motor skill...lacing! You can take a post card or piece of paper at home and punch holes in them...then give you kiddos some strings and have them lace in and out each hole.

We then made star constellations of our own...using our first letter of their name. A quick and informal assessment for me was to ask each child what their name begins with. 12/14 kiddos could do this! Quiz your kiddo at home!

Peeling stickers isn't easy for these kiddo's sweet fingers...they are hard at work!

Absolute Perfection!!!!

Coffee filter Earths...
After learning about the Planet we live on they colored coffee filters with markers and then used a water bottle to spray them (the water made the colors blend and look more like our planet).

Wow! Today was filled with finger tasks. The kiddos glued paper tiles onto their rockets...they added the glue and then picked up each square to add it to their spaceship.  Such independent sweethearts!

Last week we ordered from smallest to biggest...This week we ordered biggest to smallest.

 Friday:
The sun is sooo hot! My morning questions was: Do you think the Sun is hot or cold. I had 4 say it was cold. So we explored the sun...we found that it is made of burning gases. We also learned that it was a star (did you know blue stars are the hottest?)...this is the closest star to our planet. We need the sun! Ask your kiddo what they know about the sun!

Making the sun...
We put drops of yellow, red, and orange on a plate. We then put them into a Ziploc bag...they then smeared and blended the colors to make it look like the sun. A fun sensory activity!

Oh My Goodness....We have outside time!
Play...Play...Play sweet buddies!!

The Big Dipper!
We added pretzels and marshmallows to make this important constellation. We connect our weekly number 7 to the number of stars in the big dipper!

Moon Dough
mix 8 cups of flour with 1 cup of baby oil and mix!
Another fun sensory activity! The kiddos LOVE this!

What a fun week exploring Space! Here are 2 links that I used this week.
Our bible study this week: Psalm 8:3 "...the moon and the stars, which you have set in place...

This is a must see video on how to wash your hair in space! We talked all about gravity! The kiddos thought this was pretty amazing!
