Pond Life

Pond life was a fun way to explore creatures that are all around us! We looked at a frog's life cycle and a duck's. We also learned about the letter Qq and continued with numbers 1-10.

Thursday:
Water color time...
We painted coffee filters to make lily pads.

Beautiful sweet buddy!

These pretty pieces of art are displayed in our hallway.

Qq dot stamp sheet.

On the hunt for capital and lowercase Qq's

So smart!

Time to order the life cycle of a frog. We talked about ordinals first-fourth.

Sweet face!

Great job sweet boys!
The life cycle is:
Eggs, Tadpole, Froglet, Adult Frog
(check to see if your kiddos remember these 4 stages!)

tanograms.
We made creatures we find at the pond. This activity is great for the small fingers and for shape identification.

Perfection!

Friday
A grandparent overheard me that we were in need of tadpoles!
I used to bring in bullfrog tadpoles and their life cycle could take up to 2-3 years!!!
This is a typical pond frog and their life cycle takes only about 7 weeks from egg to adult.

Using magnifying glasses we were able to see these little creatures up close! We saw them squirm around.
We also were able to see a group of eggs. This will be fun to watch them grow over the next few weeks!

After reading such a sweet story, A Frog Thing. We made Frankie the Frogs for ourselves...To remind us that we can do anything we set our mind too...we just may need to think outside of the box!

Our Pet Frog Rocks!

The important message I sent home with the rocks...a reminder that parents are the kiddos biggest fans!

Independent water coloring! I was amazed to listen to the kiddos as they painted. They were talking about how if they mixed blue and yellow it would make green and blue and red would make purple! I love seeing the wheels turn inside these kiddos' minds!

life cycle of a duck!
We reviewed ordinals first-fourth...and then added the fifth!

Which came first....the duck or the egg? ;)

These little minds have come such a long way! They needed me very little with counting out the number of "frogs" for their lily pads. They did this activity for numbers 1-6.

Look at these minds and fingers work!

Perfect job sweet buddy!

Time for some frog flipping! They got a chance to flip the frogs into the dish. Such a challenge for their fingers.

They had so much fun!

With our letter Qq 4-box sheet I pulled out some pencil grippers. Here we really focused on their grip.

A great way to strengthen the claw!

What a fun week exploring life that surrounds us! A few things that I did not catch pictures of was sorting ocean creatures vs. pond creatures. We chatted about the difference between ocean water and pond water as well. On Thursday and Friday we talked about if we went to a pond what would we see there and made a list. A great reminder that God is Good!
