We are healthy!

This week our focus was on learning about our bodies! We explored our 5 senses, what foods are healthy, and why we need to exercise... We focused on the letter Nn and continued working with the numbers 0-5.

Thursday:
We started our week off with this silly story. This funny squirrel wanted to collect acorns for the winter and hide them...but when he couldn't find them he had to snack on something else!

We then made our own silly acorns. The best part rolling the tissue paper into balls. A great fine motor skill!

Just look at those tiny fingers working so hard!
Nn is for Night.

Sweet buddy is hard at work...and just look at that stellar "pencil" grip...
We began to learn what our 5 senses are and why they are important! This was a great story to introduce that!

First we listened...most heard nothing.

Then we smelled...many said they smelled doughnuts. YUM!

Next...we used our sense of touch. It felt bumpy and squishy.

Then I had the kiddos close their eyes and open their mouths. They are so trusting! And they tasted it.

Finally we got to look! It was a gummy worm! So we all got to eat a gummy worm of course!

What do we like for lunch.?

Friday:
*Somehow my Friday is out of order. I was having some blog technical issues. So our day may seem as bit mixed up! Sorry!

Food sort.
This was challenging. Ha! We had to learn that although french fries and potato chips are yummy (and ok to eat sometimes) that they are not healthy. Even if we don't like cherries...they are still good for you. It was fun hearing their responses on why something is healthy or not healthy but a yummy treat.

Look at their fingers hard at work!
As many of you have figured out...I love to connect home and school. So they did not glue any of their pieces down so they could go over it with you at home. I also added some foods that we didn't talk about. And the kicker is..I didn't cut them either. I wanted the kiddos to show you what they have learned with proper scissor hold here at school. So this sweet boy is saying, "Look mom and dad...please do this activity with me at home!" Really...those were his exact words! ha!!

Some Potato Head fun.
They got to build their very own Potato Head. Not only was this educational (5 senses)...but a good task to build hand strength (pushing and pulling).

Science Time.
It has been a while since we have done some fun science in my room.
Here are going to make popcorn dance...while incorporating our senses.

Smelling the baking soda. We all determined it smells like nothing.

Next we smelled vinegar. Well...you can judge by his face...it smells like something!

After mixing all the ingredients...We poured in the vinegar. And this is where the magic happened!

The popcorn kernels began to dance up and down!

More fun!
Can we predict what Mrs. Trina is doing?
We turned out the lights and used 2 very important senses (hearing, and smelling).
The first thing we heard was something that sounded like a fan (the microwave), next we heard some popping, then we smelled something buttery!
Mrs. Trina was popping popcorn!

If we make it...we must eat it! The smell of popcorn is enough to make anyone hungry!

Such great friends!
Such an artist!

Potato Head Game.
The kiddos would pull out a piece that went to the Mr. Potato Head. They then had to tell me what the part was and which one of the 5 senses it was. Ear=Hearing

They then added it to the head!

Time for some exercises! This is how we stay healthy.

If you get a chance ask Mrs. Tracy who out did her in push-ups!  And then tell her there "ain't no knees in push-ups!"
A little bit of school fun!

Who doesn't love this perfect little acorn! Her hand print is pretty great too!

Ball time at recess! A little rain never stopped us!

Nn is for noodles. And Nn is for Nimble fingers! Yes, Yes...another fine motor task.

Great job sweet buddy! He is so hard at work!

Letter Nn 4 box sheet. A fun way to learn the letters!
If you ever want any of these sheets...I have made them for each of the letters. We just don't always get to them each week... I would be happy to send them home.

Mrs. Trina LOVES her job! She really LOVES it when I take her picture!
