Community Helpers...C...ran out of time for the number 6 :(

Another short week. This weather is really bumming me out! I sure hope that groundhog is wrong!! After no school on Monday and a shortened day on Tuesday we crammed in as much as we could! I also began the accessing this week and will continue next Monday and Tuesday. And yes...I was short on taking pictures this week. There was so much that we needed to get to...I forgot to take a moment to stop take pictures. Surprise! ha!

This week we started off with Community Helpers. A very wonderful parent made this cool sorting chart for us. I first went over the picture cards. We had a police officer, firefighter, farmer, and a dentist.

The kiddos picked a picture from the bag and had to put it under the right community helper.

Who would drive a cool car like this?

This smart buddy knows!

And this pretty lady knows that a farmer needs a tractor. We also discussed why he would use a tractor and not a firefighter or dentist!

Who has a cow?

When we finished...we went over all of them. And talked about why community helpers are so important.

Then using our sweet hand prints we made police cars.

Yes...it is black...please let's not touch our face! ha!

Our thumbprints were used as sirens!

Our sweet friend got to share what she and Gumby did over the course of a week! Wow! That guy sure did a lot of fun things! He cooked, ate waffles, read books...and so much more!

The kiddos are so proud that they get to share...and talking in front of their classmates is so important too!

OK parents! This is one activity that I can't stress enough!! Paper tearing. Now it seems so simple yet it is so hard for them. Manipulating their fingers to make these tiny tears is so, so challenging!

They had tear red, yellow, and green.

Then had to follow simple directions to put the colors in the right place and glue them down.

We now have a perfect stoplight. We learned that stoplights keep us safe. They tell us when to stop, be slow, and go. We played red light and green light later that day.

Working so hard. Tearing big pieces is easier than tearing small.

Check out these hard workers! All done!

You can see the difference in tearing. Such an easy and fun thing to do. You can have them tear down cereal boxes when they are ready to be thrown away or recycled....or any other paper (so they get that fine motor work and feel like they are being helpful)
Our 4 box C sheet. We also did the /Cc/ letter hunt and dot the C. I forgot to take pictures of those!

One smart buddy!

When I grow up I want to ____________ to help in the community.

We had eye doctors, a water man, a dad who does dishes, and so many more. These were so cute. But...don't expect to see them...I have placed them in their portfolios.

I also forgot to take pictures of the stop and go activity. Maybe next week I can take a minute and capture a few as we review it! You can practice that game at home...while you stay warm inside! Stay safe parents!
