wild about the Zoo

A wild week in our room...from crafts, to counting to even zoo yoga! We were wild about the zoo theme.

For our letter Z...we zipped zippers, tore stripes for our Z is for Zebra page (an amazing fine motor skill), did our letter hunt, and our independent dot sheet.

For our number (I know I said 5 this week...but I decided to keep it at 4). We rolled a dot cube and placed cherri-o’s on that number that was on a giraffe. We also placed animal crackers on a sheet to do staircase counting 1-4. This helps with not only 1:1 counting but in understanding the value off each number. Please be working with your kiddo counting up to 5 objects and just verbally counting to 5.

During craft time we turned our sweet faces into lions...these are super cute! I have put them in the hallway! We also made some fun coffee filter peacocks. The kiddos love to paint with water colors.

We borrowed from Mrs. Rachel some fun foam animal shapes to string onto a pipe cleaner. This is amazing fine motor work as well as hand/eye coordination.

I had found a cool website that had kids “zoo yoga” So we did some fun stretches and poses in class. This was a fun little workout for them.

So many fun books surrounding the zoo theme. Mem Fox writes a cute book called, Zoo-Looking. We also read some non-fiction books like If I had animal hair. This is a cute series.  Read the poem I sent home and maybe have your kiddos see if they can find the letter Zz in it.

We are continuing learning that God made Everything and he said it is good. This week we learned that he made the Stars, the moon, and the sun.

This week we started looking at their names and working on putting the letters of their name in order.

At home this week:
1. Ask your kiddo to tell you the letter their name starts with
2. Count out 4 objects
3. Find the letter Zz's in their poem I sent home

All about Me!

I love that these kiddos feel so special to share things they love!

Thanks for your help in making their favorite zoo animal. Together we made a "Class Zoo"

Tearing stripes for their "Z"ebra.
This is a great fine motor skill. The smaller the paper they tear the stronger their fingers are!

Putting the letters of their names together to make a zoo animal.

freeing zoo animals. This is also a great fine motor skill!
