Fun with Author Jan Brett

A great start back to school. We learned all about Jan Brett and the picture clues she uses to to tell her stories. We worked on recalling and sequencing of her stories. Retelling is the beginning steps of learning to read! We worked on the letter Uu and finally moved onto the number 6.

making sweet Hedgie from the story, The Mitten

Welcome back sweet buddy!!

Such a sweet mama!

Peace! Always ready to pose!

Retelling the story, The Mitten
The kiddos were each given a character from the story and as the animal went into the mitten so did the kiddo that was pretending to be that animal.

"Aaaaa-chooooo" All the animals flew out!

Working on some fine motor skills and lacing the mitten.

Retelling the story...

stair case counting. The kiddos proved to do super well with adding a snowflake to each mitten...after number 4 it got pretty tricky. This is an activity you can work with them on at home!

See!?! I sent the snowflakes home
(also...these tiny flakes are perfect to work on that pinch and grasp!)

How big is your mitten?

Friday:
We read Jan Brett's The Hat
So we made hats of our own...

independent dot sheet

letter hunt

color sort and match game

Our minds-in-motion room was under repair and it was a bit toooooo cold to go outside...so we did some yoga!

parachute fun!!

A great week! We also read a few other of Jan Brett's awesome stories. The kiddos loved her picture clues...it really kept their attention! Laura Numeroff is this week! Stay warm...and wish the rain away!
