All about those pearly whites!

This was a fun and educational week about our teeth. We had a wonderful guest speaker who told us why it is important to take care of our teeth, how to take care of them, and what to expect with these baby teeth!  This week I worked once again on that 1:1 counting. My goal is for kiddos to be successful with that by the end of the year up to number 10.

Thursday:
Using teezers or chopsticks these kiddos had to pick up cotton balls 1:1 to fill up their tooth. What an awesome way to start the week with getting these sweet hands warmed up for the day!

Great job sweet buddy! It takes a ton of hand strength to use just one hand!

After reading a non-fiction book about going to the dentist we decided we would make some fun toothbrushes of our own! They did such an awesome job following each of these simple directions.

gluing...

Cutting. We worked hard on using proper scissor grip to cut our white paper to make it look like the bristles of the brush.

Next we mixed glue, shaving cream, and blue paint to make a foamy paste.

Gone with Gumby! These 2 had some amazing adventures!

Our independent activity was to practice brushing some dirty teeth!

I encouraged small circles as they brushed.

Which food makes our teeth happy and which does not. We learned that some may make our tummy's happy and our tongues happy...but our teeth don't like sugar bugs (cavities!)

By the looks of his smile...he looks very happy!

I got to learn all about their teeth! This will go in their end of the year portfolio!
 Friday:

Making our mouths! We worked on counting 1:1 as we added marshmallows to our mouths.

I LOVE that pointing!

Sweet Pokey had an accident! Tink a sweet little puppy thought she could play with him...her bite was quite hard! Pokey went to the doctor and got all bandaged up and healed just in time to go on his next adventure!

Saying goodbye to our Mrs. Trina.

Using our sweet thumbs we made her a special vase.
We sure will miss her!!

Practicing being a good dentist. We drilled, filled, and pulled out teeth!

I see orthodontics in his future!

Measuring!
We used non-standard units of measurements to measure the length of a toothbrush. Unifix cubes, buttons, and teddy bears were our choices!

After we measured out the length we compared all of our units of measurement. We learned that depending on what we used to measure with could vary depending on the size of the object!

Hard at work these boys are!

I then would check their 1:1 counting. Once we get past 5 this can be tricky! Remember those fingers move faster than our sweet little voices! Work on them slowing down at home!

Scissor cutting time... Great form sweet girl!

What an awesome week! We had so much fun learning about our teeth and working on some basic skills. I can't wait to see what next week brings!
