Mrs. Laura's Class: Valentine's Day! LOVE is in the air!

I LOVE Valentine's Day! So much sweetness all around. This week we worked on the letter Vv, the number 10 (I know...I skipped ahead a bit), and all about hearts!

Thursday:

Trina says...Let's make a mess! Art is messy...right??
They colored coffee filters...

Then they sprayed them with water...

And made these masterpieces!

Sometimes a little bit of man handling is needed to get that special thumbprint!
Just kidding!

After their thumbprints were made...I took them home and baked them for about 4 hours on 200

I then turned their thumbs into hearts by painting them! Of course we have to add their names and the year (we don't want to forget how little their thumbs were in 2016). I also added a sealer to keep them looking special!

What will happen when we put them into 7up, cold water, and hot water?
We made predictions before we began the experiment. Many said they would explode! I promise...we will not explode anything in our 3 year old class...not this week anyway! :)
After we started the experiment we revisited it every 10 minutes to look for change.

We noticed they moved and fizzed in the soda.

They sank to the bottom with the cold water and just hung out.

Then they began to dissolve in the soda.

They seemed to just hangout in the cold water.

Where did they go?? We talked about how hot water makes sugar dissolve much quicker than cold water...but eventually they would dissolve in cold water.

We learned what our weekly bible verse was by putting these hears in order from smallest to biggest.

This is why I skipped to number 10...I wanted to work on those 10 little wiggly hearts!

Friday:

Another fine motor task...tearing paper! Remember...the smaller they tear the stronger their fingers are! Encourage tearing at home!

Making our name love bugs! More stickers + more peeling = strong fingers!
Not to mention educational! We worked on ordering the letters in their names. I had written their names on the stickers...they had to put them into the right order and stick them on! I am encouraging them to spell their names aloud! Something you can do at home too!
