Ocean Life...

We loved exploring under the sea! We loved learning about sharks! Did you know that one shark can have more than 1,000 teeth in its mouth at one time?? And there are more than 400 types of sharks! We loved comparing dolphins to sharks and learning about many more sea creatures! We also worked on the letter Oo and reviewed the numbers 1 and 8.

Thursday:
The adventures continue with Gumby...

And Pokey! I think these 2 rubber toys have had more ice cream than me already this season at Berry Twist!

We wrote what we knew about sharks before we watched an educational video and read a non-fiction book on them. After we read...we pulled out some new knowledge!

Craft time!
After reading an Eric Carle story, A House for Hermit Crab...
We learned that not only do hermit crabs outgrow their shells...and need to find new homes...but a home is where your family and friends live! So we made our very own dream homes for our handprints!

What 3 year old doesn't love glitter glue!?!

Perfection by these great artists!

Letter hunt!

Time to sort!
What lives in the ocean and what lives on land sort!

Love this sweet face! Yup...an octopus lives in the ocean!

FINALLY!!! Some outside time!

Independent dot sheet for the letter Oo

These cool creatures came in capsules. We predicted what they would be and dissolved them in some warm water!

How fun are these!?!
 Friday:
Oo is for Orange! What a fun way to learn about the letter O! Painting an orange with orange water colors!

Holding a tiny paint brush can be a tough task! Encourage the kiddos to hold close to the base of any utensil! This will give them more control.

After reading, Swimmy by Leo Leonni. We made our very own "Swimmy" fish. We learned that in this story if we work together we can achieve so much!

Rolling the paint onto their bubble wrap!

Our final product!

O is for Cherr-o's! Yum!!
This is a great fine motor skill...picking up those "O's" with the pincher grip is challenging! But...I am sure you already know that! :)

Math time!
Here we are working on 1:1 counting. The kiddos needed to grab 8 pieces of yarn (1 by 1) and count it out for me. I assessed how well they counted using that 1:1 correspondence!

After they counted out their 8 pieces of yarn they added them as "legs" to their octopus.

Great job sweet girl!

Playing Hi-Ho Cherri-O! This is a fun way to introduce adding and subtracting. Simple numbers up to 4! Playing games also encourages team-work and taking turns.

Can you see any fine motor skills going on here?

Let's Read!
Fun reading time with our friends in one of our favorite spots...the boat!

Learning about an octopus...inking!
We talked about how animals protect themselves in different ways in the ocean. I told them how an octopus has a special skill...they ink. So I modeled why!

Many creatures would eat an octopus here...You can see them!

I added some "ink" like they do...and look what happens! The octopus becomes harder to see!

This allows the octopus to scurry away fast...and the other creature can't see them! I compared it to a skunk and its stink!

After learning about octopus inking...we watched this cool short video! Take a look!

This week we also wrote about if we could be any sea creature in the ocean...which one would we choose! Most chose shark or dolphin...we had a few crabs! What a cool theme to explore!

One thing I forgot to have these kiddos do was to listen to seashells to see if they could hear the ocean! If you have some shells at home you can do this with your kiddo!
