The letter /Ii/, the Number 8...and lots of fun with snowmen and ice...not to mention a school closing because of it!

What better way to incorporate our theme than having snow and ice...maybe your homework should be to make a snowman today with your kiddos! We worked so hard the letter of the week, our number 8, and our theme! Thank goodness we got so much accomplished in just 3 short hours!
After reading Nancy Carlson's book, Snowden...we made our own magical snowman. Using cotton balls. The kids were so creative as you can see. Not to mention using these sweet hands to pick up cotton balls and other decorating objects are the perfect way for them to work on their eye-hand corrdination.

Letter 4 box. Consistency helps with learning.

A huge fine motor activity...and their indpendent activity for the day. Many did not finish filling up their snowflake with beads... and that is ok! It is a tough job to string those beads on....if you have beads at home they would love to continue to fill it up for you!

Look at those sweet fingers hard at work!
We decided to take some work to the floor for a change in scenery. We did the letter Ii dot to work on letter form.

We then moved onto a Capitol and lowercase letter match. You can do this at home. But remember to only have them match 4-5 letters...otherwise it will get overwhelming!

He found a match! Smart Buddy!

This sweet girl did too!
Let us work on writing our name.

I created a "trace my name for each kiddo"...and laminated it for multiple uses! They love tracing their names, wiping it off, and then doing it again!

Perfect job sweet girl...Her proud face says it all!

Hard at work!
Open free time...He has had his eye on this puzzle all morning!! Welcome to our wonderful world of learning sweet boy!

Play time helps increase socialization and imagination.

Science time...We wanted to make crystal ice needles for our theme.

You can do this simple activity at home. 1/2 cup epson salt, 1/2 cup warm water. food coloring optional. Mix and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

We will check it on Monday...even I can't wait to see what happens!

A little bit of math with our friend...Number 8!

Each kiddo had to count out on their own 8 pieces of cereal. This was great because I could check their 1-1 correspondence and listen to them count (a simple way to check for understanding and a quick assessment) They can do this with you at home. Have them count out silverware for dinner or napkins...or count out clothing as you fold it.  They love learning and helping!

Pointing as they count will build strong number sense...which then builds a strong foundation for other mathmatical skills.

Story time with Mrs. Trina. She had the kiddos look at the book Snowman. This book did not have words so the kiddos had to predict what was happening by using the pictures. Picture clues is one way that children will begin to learn to read.

When she finished she went back and read the book with words...they were able to check to see how close they were to the actual story. Awesome comprehension activity. You can do this at home. Before you read the words in a story allow them to look at the picture and predict what is going on....then go back and read the words! They will be using this strategy as they learn to read words as they grow!!
As you can see...we were busy little bees! We had an awesome Monday...I am already thinking of the fun things we will get into next week with space!! I love my job...if I can really call it that! Stay warm!!
