Turkeys and Thanksgiving...

We have so much to be thankful for. We learned this week about the Mayflower and the true reason we celebrate Thanksgiving. We also were blessed to have a 100% Native American visit us and teach us about their traditions, dances, and attire. We continued working on numbers 0-5, counting to 15, and the letter Tt.

Thursday:
We asked the kiddos what they were thankful for. We had so many wonderful responses...these will be super sweet on your Thanksgiving table!

Sorting our Fruit Loops...

A yummy and great fine motor task for those sweet fingers!

What would you do if you were a Thanksgiving turkey? Run, hide or disguise?
We did this after reading my favorite Thanksgiving story by Eve Bunting, Thanksgiving Turkey

They then had to count out 5 feathers for our turkey. They are getting so great at counting 1:1 and understanding the value of a number.

Our special guest.

Learning a Native American dance.
 Friday:
Do you like pumpkin pie? Of course we had to taste it to find out!

Feathering some turkeys!

Going for a ride!

Tearing paper to make a T. This is super challenging for small hands. Tearing paper is very hard. The smaller they tear the stronger their fingers are. Such an easy and great activity at home!

Her tiny fingers are hard at work.

Hand print Mayflower!

Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! Remember no school this week! When we come back it will be December! Remember to practice the holiday songs for our program!

Dinosaurs galore!

We learned all about dinos this week! We also worked on the numbers 0-5 and the letter Dd
Here are just a few of the new items added to our classroom from Trike-a-Thon money!

Dinosaur play time...

We learned about dino fossils...so we made some of our own! I forgot them at my home (I had to bake them) so you will see these next week!

Happy Birthday to this sweet boy!
The kiddos used droppers and water to try and get the dinosaurs out of ice eggs! My awesome paleontologists!

This is also a great sensory and fine motor skill!

Hunting for the letter Dd...great detectives!

I have started working on the kiddos learning how to make their name. We will spend a lot of time this year getting them to know the letters in their name and after Christmas we will begin learning how to write our names. This is a great activity for you to do at home. Use the letters I send you and have them practice putting them in the right order...this is the first step!!

 Friday:
Making a triceratops!

This gal loves her giraffe!

We watched a special video to learn about Veteran's Day!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhg5F_azlkY

We then had special Veteran, John Pinter come in to talk to us about Veterans Day and the branches of service!

He led us in the Pledge

A boy and his veteran daddy!

Dd is for dots...and a great fin motor task!

Using non-standard units of measurement...we measured dino bones! You can have them do this at home with buttons, crayons, or any other household item! It helps them use eye-hand coordination and 1:1 counting!

After measuring we practiced tracing the number of cubes it took...

We had some fun watching dinos hatch from capsules...we then used a picture page to figure out what kind of dinosaurs we hatched out! So much fun!
