Eric Carle and Mrs. Laura's Very Hungry Caterpillars!

This theme is one that I love...so much to do and so little time! I will touch base with Eric Carle again in the spring when I do my author study on him! We worked on the letter Ee (which can be super tricky with all the sounds it can make) and the number 3. These kiddos are really grasping the concept of counting 1:1 and understanding the value. We also had a special visitor this week...bringing in each of the 4 stages of a butterfly.

Thursday:
We started out day out by reading this story by Eric Carle, Little Cloud. After reading the story we made clouds of our own...and using our imagination shared what we thought our cloud looked like!

This sweet girl shared a very special snack..."cotton candy grapes" They smelled like cotton candy...they taste like cotton candy...so it must be cotton candy...right?!?!

Such a special boy!

Such a sweet girl!

Margie our "Butterfly Lady"

Look closely...can you see stage 1: the egg?

Stage 2: the caterpillar

This sweet buddy is unsure!

Love this sweet girl! Stage 3:chrysalis. We learned that the gold specs are air holes so the caterpillar working so hard to be a butterfly can breath!

beautiful Monarch Butterflies!

Time to release! They will head to Mexico
Working on our tracing....

And...Our pencil grip!

Time for Eric Carle Art...We are taking our first letter of our name and turning it into priceless art!

This art was toooooo precious not to Frame!!!
Counting the hungry caterpillar's segments...and counting out pom-poms. I sent home the pom-poms so they could show you their mad skills!

Time to make some clouds of our own. We learned that clouds have moisture and when they are full they rain. Our clouds rain rainbows!

Drawing what they see...

So cool!

Just look at all the colors they added...Great Job!

We began our Friday with this classic...
Let's use texture to create and Eric Carle masterpiece.

Just wait until you see these come home! Super Cute!

Such a fun snack! They got to "eat their way through 1 piece of cheese and some pepperonis"

Loved learning about this gem!

Such a sweet blessing!
We retold what happened in the, "Very Hungry Caterpillar" story. I was amazed at their recalling skills! Recalling is the foundation of beginning reading skills.

E is for Exercise!
We also had E is for Extra Play!!

We finished off by reading this story that also was about our bible verse for the week!
We focused on the importance of knowing everyone is special! No one is better than another!

Then we told what made us grouchy and made our best grouchy face!

For 2 days we did this fun activity. After reading the book...we used our pictures to play,
___________, ________ who do you see? We see _______________ looking at me!
This was a fun way to get to know our friends! Use the sheet in their poetry folders to carry this over at home!

We had a fun week learning about Eric Carle and learning how to make his great art. Next week...apples! I have a few fun things we will be doing...like making an apple erupt! See you Thursday!
