Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

What fun we had this week exploring pumpkins! We learned so much...and had fun while doing it!

Thursday:
Which pumpkin face would you choose to carve? Happy, silly, or scary??

Most chose scary!
A video on our new Apple TV...The local fire department came to teach us about safety!

They showed us how they put on their special gear.

Then they were called out for real! We were all nervous...but new they were going to help protect someone!

They came back and told us it was a false alarm...that was good news!

What a local hero!
Will it sink or float? But first let's learn about what it means to sink...and what it means to float!

We then made predictions on whether a pumpkin would sink or float...Most said sink!

Here goes!

What!?!? It floats! Now let's talk about why...

Pumpkin painting time!

These kiddos had a blast making their pumpkins so pretty!

What amazing artists we have in our room!!!

P is for Pumpkin! We traced the letter P with pumpkin seeds on a pumpkin...

A fun fine motor activity as well picking up these tiny seeds...

Let's investigate the inside of a  pumpkin...How does it feel? How does it smell? How does it look?

Friday
My special gal for the day! Who doesn't like Frozen?

For the last 2 days we have discussed the life cycle of a pumpkin...now we are bringing it to life!

Seed, sprout, plant, flower, green pumpkin, orange pumpkin!

During this activity I really emphasized ordinals (first, second, thrid...etc)

Perfection!

Such great work! Just look at that proud face!

Just look at that face...ha!

I think we have a pair of best matching friends here!

Time to discuss circumference...

After we discussed what the circumference was...we made predictions on the circumference of our pumpkin...

Look at our predictions...Who will be just right?

Such a great guess...but a bit toooooo long!

Another smart friend...but just a bit toooo short!

We only had 1 "just right" but many were so close!

We counted up each one...Most were too long.

Look at this fun snack this sweet boy brought...pumpkin orange fruit bowls! The kids loved it!

Painting and pumpkin hammering! It doesn't get much more fun than that!

They have fun...and I love that it is a great eye-hand coordination drill!

Counting pumpkins and matching it to the right number...such a fun puzzle! I was amazed at not only their counting...but their number recognition.

Perfection...I loved how she used 1-1 correspondence while counting!

5 little pumpkins sitting on the gate! Our poem for the week...

We retold the poem. Recalling is a great first step to reading comprehension.
Pumpkin stair steps...
I loved this activity for many reasons. Fine motor wise they had to pick up these tiny little pumpkins (tricky for small fingers) Number sense wise: they were able to visually see how numbers increase in size as they count. And they had to use 1-1 correspondence while counting!

Great job sweet girl! You did it perfectly!

How many pumpkins do you see. This was a fun little book that aided in counting and color words.

P is for Play-doh

I totally forgot to take pictures of the kiddos trying pumpkin seeds. Look for our graph outside of our room. They each got to try baked pumpkin seeds. Most did not like them...and only one kiddo refused to try it! So much fun! I look forward to next week...Halloween! :)
